Week 7, the end of May

Health

We have been learning about our bodies, and how to keep them safe and healthy.  This week we have been learning the names of some of our bones, why our bones are important to us, and how to make our bones strong and healthy.

We made our own x-rays of our hand and arm.

We made a skeleton of our whole body.

We could make our skeletons move, but we had to think about how our bones would look.

Ask your child what they know about their bones.

Simultaneous Story Time

On Wednesday all the Preps gathered in the library for Melissa Nyman to read us Aaron Blabey's book 'The Brothers Quibble'.

Schools all over Australia heard the same story at the same time.

We really enjoyed the story, and had a think about brotherly love.

Thanks Mrs Nyman, it was a great story.

Don't forget that the children can change their library books every day before school.

The Reading Block

In groups this week the children were reading old big books that we read together in class.

The children did a great job with these books which are a few levels higher than the book that they work on in guided reading.

Great job all you amazing little readers!

The Writing Block

I am so proud of all their amazing writing. I do hope that you will be equally impressed at the huge efforts here as I am.

Aniston showed s quirky imagination when she wrote, "I heard a noise at the door.  Someone was selling cupcakes.  I bit a cupcake and I turned into a cupcake."

Mia used her imagination when she wrote, "I went to Frozen.  My favorite bit. I got to go in the ice palace.

Kayden gave so much extra detail when he wrote, "I was fishing at the lake.  I caught a platypus.  I saw an owl flying in the blue sky."

Hayden wrote about his trip to the dentist this, adding detail to his work. "I went to the dentist.  They put some soap and banana in my mouth.  I went home."

Tane thought carefully about his neat writing as he wrote, "I was splashing in the puddles with Jonah.  We got muddy."

Our Night Skies.

In connection to our 'Nn' week we made some night skies.

Next week we are going to see how, because we can read and write the word night, we can read and write light, right & sight etc.

Shayla did a great camping scene here.

Mia was proud of her own thinking, choosing to put her night sky on the moon where the aliens live.

Cooper was very pleased with his detail in his work.

The Maths Block

We played a game of memory as one of our subitising activities.

We also played this new game where we had to work out how many dots were missing.

As you see the children see the number 5, with only 4 dots.  They need to be able to work out how many more dots were needed to make the 5.

I would then lift the flap to check their answer.
