Lots of New Learning in Week 6

This has certainly been a very busy week, and I am sure all your little people were tired by the end of it.  I do hope that they have all had a restful weekend.

Crosswords with Mrs Salathiel

One of our new games this week was the introduction of the early crossword puzzles.

As you see they were all three letter words, with one letter per box.

The children worked very well in the game.

Stretching out the words to hear and record their sounds.

The boxes gave the clue to whether the letter was a tall, small or hanging down letter.

The children also noted that all the words had the same ending.  This helps them to see that if they can write 'can' they can write 'Nan' etc.

The Balloon Game with Mr Krake

Our next new game was 'Balloons'.

We had to listen to and match the beginning sounds shown in the pictures.

The children worked very well in this game.

Picture Word Match

Our third new literacy game was picture word match.

Here the children had to stretch out the 3 letter word to hear its sounds.

Then find the right picture for the word.

As you see this kept the children very focused.

What can we do in one Minute?

We were looking at how long is just one minute.

We counted how many times we could throw and catch a ball.

We found that we could throw and catch 30 odd times.

We saw how far we could read one of our favorite books, Mem Fox's 'The Magic Hat'.

We also saw how far we could jog around the middle area of the school.

This was one of our favorite activities.

We found that we could do quite a lot in one minute.

We got between one and one and a half times around the middle in one minute.

Clocks

This week we have been learning all about clocks.

How many numbers are on the clock, and where are each of the numbers on the clock face.

We learnt about the big hand and the little hand.

We learnt how to make the o'clock time.

Italian

We have been learning the names of different fruits in Italian.

We played this game of 'Tombola' to help us learn the fruit names.

'Tombola' is our Bingo Game.

As you see we do love this game.

The lucky winners of our games were given a sticker.

Health

This week we have been discussing the need to clean our teeth, and what food help us to grow strong teeth and bones.

Of course the Tooth Fairy plays an important role in our loss of teeth, and so we made one to go with our pictures of our teeth.
