Term 2 Comes To An End.

Here's wishing you all a very happy and restful holiday.  Your little people have worked incredibly hard over this long and busy term, and totally deserve the rest.

Here are the highlights of our last busy week for the term.

Maths - Addition

Marbles

Our work with addition continues this week.

We played a new game called 'Marbles'.

The children rolled 2 dice.

Using an abacus they added the 2 numbers together.

The children played with a patrner.

The children put their coloured marble into their  answer.

If they got the same answer as their opponent, they could remove their opponent's marble.

The child with the most marbles at the end of the game wins.

Clocks.

Clocks operates along similar lines to marbles.

However this time the answer to the addition sum tells the children which o'clock time they must fill in on the clock sheet.

The child with the most clocks filled in at the end of the game is the winner.

The children used the abacus or their fingers to add the two numbers together.

Many of the children are starting to quickly recall some number facts without having to use fingers or counters.

Making Connections

In spelling we are learning to make connections between words.

Because I can write 'my' I can now write 'by'. etc.

Craft

You will have seen the lovely little stage and finger puppets that your child brought home.

The children enjoyed making their theaters.

This was a lovely way to end our work for this term.

Netball - Teachers v Children

The 5/6 children and the teachers played an entertaining game of netball on Thursday lunchtime.

Footy - Teachers v Children

Friday lunchtime saw us all enjoying a game of footy between the 5/6 children and the teachers.

Drumming, Song and Disco

Drumming with Shabbia

This week we were all lucky enough to have Shabbia from African Drumming at our school.

Shabbia played for the children, exciting them with his rhythms and incredible volume.

Next he got all the children up and had them moving and dancing together.

Finally Shabbia played with our drum groups.

The children all had a wonderful session with Shabbia.

Song

On a Friday we read poems and songs for our class reading.

Songs and poems are great for looking at rhyming words.

They are also wonderful for inferring, where we try to work out what else the author wants us to know and understand, without actually having to say it.

This week we read and moved to our 'Shape Up Song'.

The children got right into this song, enjoying the movement as we sang.

Friday's Disco Night

Friday night saw our first Disco Night, beautifully run by the Parent Club.

The children who were lucky enough to go had an absolute ball!

The hall was dark, the music loud and the coloured lights flashing.

The boys were all looking very cool.

The girls twinkled in their party dresses.

The glow stick bangles were a great hit!

They stopped half way to refuel those tanks with chips and a box of juice.

A wonderful time was had by all!
