Week 5, Term 2

This week saw the start our my formal assessments in preparation for report writing.  It has been an exciting time to have this opportunity to stop and reflect on how far we have come so far this year.  I will continue to assess our progress next week.

Student of the Week

Congratulations to Aniston who was our very worthy student of the week for caring for our school.  Aniston has led an enthusiastic little groups of children who buzz about our school grounds collecting rubbish which has been thoughtlessly discarded.  Well-done Aniston, we all need more people like you!

The Writing Workshop

This week we have been writing our own short narratives about being lost.

We wrote our 'books' over 3 days, focusing on the beginning, middle and end of the story.

Each session begins with me demonstrating how I do my writing for each section.  I think aloud so the children can see how I compose and then write my story.

We had a big focus on the illustrations for our stories, which we do first.

Our illustrations act as our planning for our writing, and need to contain lots of detail.

The children all wrote wonderful varied stories that were such a joy to read.

Just look at some of them here.

Their ability to hear sounds in words is growing by leaps and bounds.

But it is the creation of these stories with their wonderful creative ideas which is so outstanding.

You must pop in before or after school and ask your child to show you their work in their 'Wow' books, you will be very proud.

Hovering Helicopters

In craft we made these hovering helicopters to tie in with our letter of the week, 'H,h'.

Maths

This week we have been focusing on the value of numbers.

In our game of 'Racing Rockets' we had to sequence random numbers from smallest to largest.

The children greatly enjoyed this game.

They seemed to tune into the concept here of number value very quickly.

Do ask your child how they played this game.

Health

In our study of Health we have been looking at the importance and value of fruit. We learned about how fruit contain vitamins that keep our bodies healthy.

We made these amazing fruit baskets in craft as part of our study.  Look closely and you will see that we used different techniques for each fruit.
