Our Week to Show and Shine for You

It was wonderful to see so many of you at our 'Show & Shine' evening.

The children loved being able to show you a few of the different things that they do each day at school.

They all worked hard creating their nonfiction books on bugs last term, which they were proud to show you.

We hope that you enjoyed sharing these activities with your child.

I know that you must be as proud of your child's achievements as I am.  They are all doing a wonderful job!

Another fully packed week for us all in our second week back.

Procedural Writing

We continued to work on our skills to write a correctly sequenced set of instruction for a simple activity.

Making Toast

Making toast was our first topic.

It was a fun and easy four step procedure for us to follow.

The children got involved spreading the butter,

and the jam.

Cutting the toast in half was a little more challenging, but they got there!

Eating the toast was decidedly the best part.

It was also nice social occasion.

Now knowing exactly how toast is made, we went in to draw the 4 steps for making toast.

Finally we wrote the instructions for our pictures.

All the children did a wonderful job of their procedural writing for making toast.

Making Popcorn

Making popcorn was another great success.

Finishing another great day of writing with a relaxing time with friends and eating popcorn was the best part!

Maths

We have continued our work with sharing and making groups.

We also revisited some of our learning from last term such as ordering numbers from smallest to largest.

We worked completed addition activities where we used our 'counting on' skills.

We revisited our clocks game.

We played this memory game where we recalled our number partners for 10.

We did these puzzles of the 100 square so that we looked for the number patterns in the 100 square.

Finally we looked at making doubles.

We used this memory game to help us to remember the doubles.

Ask us some doubles to see how many we already know.

Push and Pull

As part of our Quest Unit we are studying a science topic called 'Push & Pull'.

We asked all the children to bring along a toy which could move.

The children demonstrated how their toy moved.

We discussed what their toy was doing, and how they had got it to move.

We had such fun with this activity.

We brainstormed many different words which would describe how a thing moves.

Then we grouped the toys according to how they moved.

Thanks to all the parents who helped their child find such great toys for our experiments.

We discovered how pushing the air through these whistles made them move too!  I'm sure that you all enjoyed these coming home.

Zara is 6

Zara was 6 years old this week.

She brought this very yummy Frozen cake to share with us all.

We really enjoyed the cake.

Thanks Zara.
