Welcome back to Term 3. The year is zipping along at break neck speed now, don't you agree? I can't believe that we have passed the half way mark of the year already.
The end of last term saw many of the children quite sick with coughs, colds and upset tummies. The holidays seem to have given us a nice opportunity to break the cycle of these annoying bugs.
As always this is going to be a very busy term, with lots of highlights and events during the term. I have put some of the dates to remember in red on the right of the blog here.
Maths - Place Value
We have been looking at the numbers 11 to 19 this week.
As you see we have been using the 10s frames for this, and our counters of course.
We have been doing lots of activities where we have to make the numbers 11 - 19.
We then had to note what was the same between the varied numbers, and what was different.
We noted that all the numbers had one 10, that was the same, but the ones were different.
We will continue to do lots of practical activities with place value over the course of this term.
Mass
We also started our unit of work with Mass.
As an introduction we learnt about 'hefting'.
'Hefting' is about picking up two items, one in each hand, and then determining which one is heavier or lighter than the other.
The children used their drink bottle to compare each item to heavier and lighter items.
They had great fun, moving around the room hefting different items.
They were very good and quite accurate with this activity.
The children had record their information onto a sheet with varying accuracy .
Your child will have brought their record sheet home, have a look at what they did, and ask them about the task.
